A Norfolk-based software startup specializing in industrial robotic automation will create 37 jobs and expand its operation in its Hampton Roads home to the tune of a $101,400 investment, Gov. Ralph Northam announced Thursday. Virginia competed against California and Texas for the project.
SVT Robotics operates on West 20th Street in Norfolk. The company will expand there, constructing a laboratory to house robotic equipment to demonstrate its capabilities for clients and industrial robotic manufacturers, according to a news release.
Its proprietary Softbot platform deploys robotics without the use of custom code into existing systems to enable automation on-premise or in the cloud.
“SVT Robotics is a prime example of the success that innovative technology businesses can achieve in our commonwealth,” Gov. Ralph Northam said in the announcement.
The company can receive a state-funded grant through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program for help with recruitment and training. SVT Robotics is eligible to receive $900 for each of the 37 new jobs once they have been created, according to an email from Suzanne Clark, communications director of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership.
“The ability to recruit the best technical talent is the lifeblood of tech companies and we applaud Virginia’s efforts to create strong tail winds for firms like SVT,” company CEO and co-founder A.K Schultz said.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the city of Norfolk and the Hampton Roads Alliance to land the project for Virginia. SVT Robotics is also a graduate of 757 Accelerate, a nonprofit regional program that helps early-stage businesses grow.
