Sara (Sally) Ann Anderson OBITUARY

Sara (Sally) Ann Anderson of Virginia Beach, formerly of Statesville, NC, passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2024. Originally from Charleroi, PA, Sally proudly supported her husband, Col Raymond (Ray) Anderson, in the United States Army Chemical Corp for 28 years. As a military spouse, she provided a loving home to Ray and their two daughters living in various parts of the United States (NC, AL, CA, TX, NM, LA, VA) as well as a 3-year assignment in Germany. After retiring from the Army, Sally moved to Statesville, NC where she continued to support Ray as he continued to wear the US Army Uniform as a Senior Army Instructor for the Junior ROTC Program at North Iredell High School. Relocating frequently, Sally took pride in keeping a loving and inviting home for her family and friends.

Previously decreasing her were her loving husband of 60 years, Col Raymond L Anderson of Virginia Beach, and her parents, Claude and Eleanor Jenkins. She is survived by her daughters Susan F. Blair (Paul) of Jonesboro, GA., Dr. Wendy Rae Howard (Robert) of Virginia Beach, and grandson Jacob T. Blair (Keegan) of Atlanta, GA., brother Claude (Skip) and sister-in-law Marie Jenkins of Roseville, CA, sister Eleanor (Elly) and brother-in-law Robert Bojarski of Greensburg, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

Sally loved children and spent many years teaching pre-school, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, reading to children, and always extending a warm smile and embrace to every child that she met. She loved dogs and had many faithful companions over her lifetime. She was a dedicated member of the Philanthropic Education Organization (P.E.O.) were she served in several leadership positions. She also contributed to every community where she lived serving through the Military Officers Wives Club, hospital volunteer programs, the Army base chapel, and the United Methodist Church.

Sally enjoyed entertaining family and friends in a warm and inviting home, feeding them well, especially with the baking of delicious pies, fudge, and desserts. Having a beautiful soprano voice, Sally loved singing and shared her talents with each church congregation to which she belonged. She was a dedicated caregiver to her husband for many years as he suffered with military service connected Parkinsons disease. Sally never met a stranger and showed kindness to everyone she encountered.

Her memorial service and burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery (Section 78, grave 195), Arlington, VA., where she will join her husband, Ray, at a date to be determined. Funeral arrangements are being made by H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Rd., Virginia Beach, VA.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Bay Lake Retirement in Virginia Beach for the love, care and dedication that they provided to Sally. She loved living there and considered the residents and staff as part of her family. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com.
