Robb Kinder, a former New Kent High star and Christopher Newport All-American, shared the lead at 9 under par entering the final round after a long Friday of golf at the 67th Eastern Amateur at Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club in Portsmouth.
Thursday’s rain meant many players had to finish their second round Friday and then, if they made the 36-hole cut, complete their third. Sixty-three players, all at 5-over 145, made the cut.
Kinder completed a 70 in the second round and a 67 in the third. It looked like he would end the day alone in second place, but UNC Greensboro’s Branden Boyce double-bogeyed the par-5 18th hole to finish at 68 and fell into a tie with Kinder.
Bobby Dudeck, a former Jamestown High and Radford player, was third at 8 under after a 66, his best round of the event.
Great Bridge High 2024 graduate Trey Marrion, who soon will play for the University of Illinois, shot 68 in the third round. He shared fourth place at 7-under 203 with North Carolina State players Michael Vick and Cade McLaughlin.
The final round will start Saturday morning.
