Bacteria levels at Huntington Park Beach have risen above state standards, resulting in a swim advisory, according to a news release from the Peninsula Health District.
Health officials recorded an unsafe level of enterococci, bacteria that don’t directly cause illness but indicate increased contamination.
“People swimming or playing in waters with bacteria levels higher than the standard have an increased risk of developing gastrointestinal illness,” the release said.
Such advisories are usually temporary. Health officials took new samples Tuesday and will withdraw the warning once bacteria return to safe levels.
