A teenage boy died early Saturday, several hours after having been shot in Newport News, according to police.

Officers were called about 9 p.m. Friday to the 800 block of Walden Pond Court for a report of a shooting, police said in a tweet. The area is near Potter’s Field Park and Warwick Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday, the tweet said. Police have not yet identified the teen, or provided his age. No other information was available at this time.
