LITTLE LEAGUE
The Fleet Park Senior League team won two games at the Southeast Region tournament in Safety Harbor, Florida, to move into the final four of the event held near Tampa Bay.
After losing its opener, the Norfolk squad defeated fellow state champion Lexington, Tennessee, 5-4 in a weather-delayed game and then eliminated the host team, West Pasco of New Port Richey, 6-2.
Fleet Park advanced to an elimination game against the winner between state champs Logan of West Virginia and East Marietta National of Georgia.

Pilots win again
The Peninsula Pilots continued their recent momentum Sunday with a 10-7 victory over the Greenville Yard Gnomes in North Carolina.
Peninsula (32-11, 16-3 in the Coastal Plain League season’s second half) clinched the East Division’s second-half title Saturday. The next day, the Pilots squandered all of a 6-1 lead but regained command with a four-run ninth inning. Trey Morgan’s double and Aaron Manias’ single contributed to the rally. They drove in two runs each, as did Henry Garcia.
Pilots starter Walker Fuller lasted seven innings, giving up five runs.
Uriah Walters hit a three-run homer in a four-run seventh for Greenville.
Peninsula, which also won the East’s first half, will host Game 1 of a Petitt Cup semifinal series July 28 against the team that finishes second overall in the East. The Wilmington Sharks (26-17) lead the Wilson Tobs (23-18) by two games for that position.
BASKETBALL
Lassiter scores 41 in pro-am game
Virginia State’s Pharoah Lassiter, despite missing the first quarter, poured in 41 points Sunday to help Team Brown defeat ECG 94-83 in the Hampton Roads 7 Cities Pro-Am Summer League at Norview High in Norfolk.
James Madison’s Xavier Brown added 21 points for Team Brown.
For ECG, Norfolk State’s Chris Fields Jr. had 32 points.
Meanwhile, Harvey Lindsay defeated Daddy James BBQ 76-63 as Michael Christmas and Eli White scored 20 apiece for the victors, while Scottie Hubbard netted 16 and Dominic Stanford 14.
1st Class RE handled NewRunz 79-60 behind Clint Wright Jr.’s 19 points and Dani Pounds’ 17. Cam Bacote scored 28 points for NewRunz.
Also, the Wildcats overcame Jarcam 71-51.
Marrow sparks Sideline Cancer team to victory
Peninsula native Jermaine Marrow scored 15 points off the bench to help the Sideline Cancer team breeze past Veniceball 100-77 in The Basketball Tournament’s first round at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky.
Marrow, a guard who played for Kecoughtan and Heritage High, is one of Hampton University’s all-time top players. He was 6 of 11 from the field, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range, and provided four assists and three rebounds. Marrow was one of five double-digit scorers for Sideline Cancer, which was led by Alonzo Verge’s 27 points.
Sideline Cancer next will play at 7 p.m. Monday on FS1 against The Ville, a Louisville alumni team.
Ex-Norview star boosts Thunder in Summer League
Former Norview High star Keyontae Johnson had 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists to help the Oklahoma City Thunder defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 88-79 in the NBA Las Vegas Summer League.
Both teams moved to 1-4 in the league.
