Flight: Rogallo Kite Festival | June 16, 17
Family-friendly annual celebration of people and kites taking flight at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. In honor of Francis Rogallo, NASA scientist and a pioneer of modern aviation, who eventually settled in Outer Banks. Free event features 30- to 100-foot kites flying over the big dune, along with stunt kite demonstrations and activities for the kids. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. Hosted by Kitty Hawk Kites. The Native American Museum in Frisco hosts programs every Thursday afternoon related to native culture and history. June 16 program is about drumming, what natives often refer to as “Earth’s heartbeat.” June 23 program is about native relationships to smaller animals – spiders, snakes, beetles, etc. – and the often unseen benefits they provide.
