Freedom Boat Club of Hampton Roads opened its first Peninsula location mid-June at the Safe Harbor Bluewater Marina at 15 Marina Road in Hampton. The new location initially began with a fleet of four boats and gives members access to the Chesapeake Bay, James River and Intercoastal Waterway, according to a release.

Fred Astaire Dance Studios held its grand opening May 21, according to a release. The studio is located at 4725 Virginia Beach Boulevard, Suite 170.
EVO Entertainment Hampton, EVO Entertainment Group’s first-ever cinema-entertainment venue to open outside of Texas, opened May 27 in Peninsula Town Center at 4401 W. Claiborne Square. The venue includes luxury movie theaters, an arcade, bowling and a scratch kitchen and bar.
Ceremony, a dry bottle shop offering non-alcoholic alternatives to beer, wine and spirits, mixers and bitters as well as sustainable bar accessories, opened its first Hampton Roads location in Virginia Beach on May 28, according to a release. The shop is located inside Painted Tree Boutiques at 1624 Laskin Road, Unit 748, Space F22. There is also a location in Hampton at 24 S King St.
After a successful stint in Norfolk’s Selden Market, Vessel Craft Coffee held a soft opening for a flagship stand-alone store on May 28 at 1229 West Olney Road in West Ghent’s Chelsea Business District.

Monroe Rooftop, an open-air rooftop lounge overlooking the Hampton River in downtown Hampton, held its grand opening April 15-17. The business is open seven days a week featuring lunch specials, themed networking happy hours, wine tastings, live music and more, according to a press release. Monroe Rooftop held a soft opening Sept. 30, 2021, according to previous Pilot reporting.

Hobby Lobby, the national craft and home décor retailer, announced Feb. 18 that its newest location in Chesapeake is open.

After 61 years at the Oceanfront, Black Angus Restaurant served its last steak at its resort area location on New Year’s Eve. The restaurant will reopen under the same name in a more centralized location in Virginia Beach, but that location has not been announced.
Matchsticks BBQ opened its first brick-and-mortar location in Williamsburg on Jan. 6, according to its Facebook page.
PetSuites, a national pet boarding, day care, grooming and training business, opened a new location in Virginia Beach at 4257 Pleasant Valley Road the first week in January.
Bread Box Café, previously located in London Bridge Plaza on Virginia Beach Boulevard, opened a new location at 3157 Virginia Beach Blvd., in the Rose Hall Shops.
Pale Horse Coffee opened a Summit Pointe location in Chesapeake, according to its Facebook page.
Chic-A-Sea closed its Chestnut Avenue location in Southeast Newport News. Its other two locations at 4400 Jefferson Ave. in Newport News and 1417 W. Pembroke Ave. in Hampton remain in operation.

A chic bakery-café chain from Europe, Granier European Bakery & Cafe is making Virginia Beach its second U.S. home. The Hilltop East location opened at 1544 Laskin Road in November.
Authentic fish and chips can be found at The Chipper, which opened its second Hampton Roads location in Virginia Beach Nov. 10 at 5604 Princess Anne Road.
Soulivia’s Art + Soul opened in the Edinburgh-Hickory area of Chesapeake in December. The upscale, 150-seat Southern-rooted restaurant opened next to Crave Bakery + Coffee Bar and serves modern Southern cuisine.
Good Vibes, a music venue that serves brunch with the “world’s biggest Bloody Mary bar,” opened in December in the former Boathouse Live and Toby Keith-themed restaurant space in Newport News City Center at Oyster Point.

Colonial Williamsburg’s Merchants Square celebrated the opening of J. McLaughlin, a fashion retailer offering classic American sportswear; FatFace, a United Kingdom-based apparel and accessories dealer; and Penny and a Sixpence, specializing in sterling silvery jewelry.
The region’s first Chicken Salad Chick franchise opened at Peninsula Town Center in Hampton. A second franchise location is planned for the Williamsburg area.

Legal Sea Foods, a Boston-based restaurant and oyster bar chain, will offer casual dining in an 8,000-square-foot site and plans to open late this year.
Nando’s, a South African fast food chain that specializes in flame-grilled chicken with peri-peri pepper and sauce flavors, is set to open at 221 Central Park Avenue in Virginia Beach Town Center in late fall 2022.
Pups and Pints, a proposed craft brewery including a dog day care service in Virginia Beach, hopes to open this fall.
The Well Co. & Cafe, a South Carolina-based wellness business, plans to open a café, yoga studio, massage therapy and a boutique in Norfolk’s East Beach neighborhood.
