UPDATED:

A Chesapeake public library will be closed through the weekend after a vehicle struck the building.

Police responded to the intersection of Old Greenbrier and Providence roads on Friday, Feb. 24 around 6:17 p.m. in reference to a vehicle accident.

When police arrived, they found a truck and SUV had been involved in a collision. As a result of the accident, the SUV went off the road and struck the side of the Indian River Library.

The driver and passenger of the SUV were taken to a hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. The occupant of the truck was uninjured, according to police.

Due to conflicting witness statements, no traffic summonses are being issued, police said. Due to the damage to the library, the building will be closed for the rest of the weekend while the damage is assessed and repaired, police said.
