A Norfolk man has been charged with firing in the direction of police officers Friday night.
Around 8:20 p.m., officers saw a man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant near the 800 block of Bagnall Road, according to a release from Norfolk police. He ran when they approached him, according to the authorities.
During the pursuit, police said, the man, identified as Markell T. Taylor, fired a gun toward the officers. Then, the officers discharged their service weapons, according to Norfolk police.
Taylor, a 25-year-old Norfolk resident who lives in the 900 block of Bagnall Road, was shot more than once and taken to the hospital.
A police officer was injured, but it was not as a result of gunfire, officials said. The officer received treatment and was released.
Taylor was charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder on law enforcement, two counts of use of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Norfolk officers involved are on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
