YORK — The Colonial Soil and Water Conservation District is holding BioBlitz, a community citizen-science event, on Saturday.

The free event, scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon at New Quarter Park in York County, is an effort to bring together scientists, naturalists, volunteers and community members to record the number of living things in certain areas during a specific time. All ages are welcome to come help.

More than 45 volunteers from 12 different environmental/conservation organizations in the Williamsburg area are joining in the effort, which also celebrates World Nature Conservation Day.

“During this BioBlitz, participants will have the opportunity to explore the diverse habitats of New Quarter Park, including its forests, wetlands, meadows, and the scenic Queens Creek,” the conservation district says on the event website. “The event will be an immersive and exciting educational experience that celebrates the park’s rich biodiversity.”

The event will also include bird, insect, plant and tree walks around the park, located at 1000 Lakeshead Drive in York County. For more information, visit shorturl.at/srZKD.
