No tickets matched the winning white ball numbers of 12, 13, 33, 50, 52 and the red Powerball 23. Four people matched all five white balls to win $1 million.

If someone wins Monday night’s drawing and elects to take the immediate cash payout, as most winners do, they will receive $471.7 million, according to Powerball. To get the full $975 million, they’ll have to accept their winnings in 30 installments paid annually.

No one has won the Powerball since New Year’s Day, when a ticket-buyer in Michigan claimed the $842.4 million grand prize. At the time, that was the fifth-largest jackpot in Powerball history, but it has since been surpassed by the current jackpot.

“This is no April Fools’ Day joke, we have an advertised Powerball jackpot that’s closing in on $1 billion to kick off the month of April,” said Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director.

Both Powerball and Mega Millions have routinely approached new records in recent years. The largest Powerball prize in history was $2.04 billion, which was won in November 2022 by Edwin Castro of Southern California. Five of the six largest prizes in Powerball history have come in the past 48 months.

Four of the five biggest Mega Millions jackpots have been awarded in that same time period. The most recent Mega Millions grand prize, $1.13 billion, was won Wednesday by a single ticket-buyer in New Jersey. That was the fifth-largest Mega Millions prize ever.

The white balls 2, 9, 43, 55, 57 and red Powerball 18 did not match a single ticket sold nationwide. Three people matched all five white balls to win $1 million.

The current Powerball jackpot, which will be up for grabs in another drawing on Monday night, is the third-largest in the lottery’s history.

There have now been 37 consecutive drawings without a grand prize winner. The jackpot was last won on April 19, when a single ticket-buyer in Ohio took home $252.6 million.

If someone wins the $900 million drawing on Monday, the immediate lump sum payment will be $465.1 million, according to Powerball.

The largest jackpot in Powerball history was $2.04 billion in November 2022. That lottery was won by Edwin Castro, a Southern California resident. The second-largest jackpot was $1.59 billion in January 2016, which was split between three grand prize winners.

Before this jackpot soared to astronomical heights, the previous record grand prize in 2023 was $754.6 million, which was claimed by a winner from Washington State in February.

Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing will have the second-highest grand prize of the year, behind only a $754.6 million jackpot in February that was won by a single person in Washington State.

The grand prize money could still increase as more people buy tickets in an attempt to claim the elusive jackpot. If anyone wins, the immediate cash option will be $366.2 million before taxes, according to Powerball.

To receive the full $725 million, the winner would have to select the annuity option, which comes with a much smaller immediate payment and slightly increased payments across 29 years.

A $725 million winner would take home the seventh-richest jackpot in Powerball history. No one has claimed the grand prize since April 19, when a lucky player in Ohio won a $252.6 million jackpot. There have been 35 drawings since then.

The biggest lottery jackpot in American history was won in a Powerball drawing in November 2022. A single ticket-buyer in California, Edwin Castro, won a $2.04 billion grand prize after months of anticipation. Castro took the cash payment, worth $997.6 million.

“I am shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball drawing,” he said in a statement.

Santos, R-N.Y., has claimed his mother was at the World Trade Center when it was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001 — but immigration records show that day she was really in Brazil.

On his campaign website, Santos claimed his mother, Fatima Devolder, “was in her office in the South Tower on September 11, 2001, when the horrific events of that day unfolded.”

In Santos’ telling, his mom “survived the tragic events on September 11th, but she passed away a few years later when she lost her battle to cancer.” Devolder died from cancer in 2016.

Devolder’s cancer was not caused by toxic conditions at Ground Zero, according to immigration records shown to The Washington Post.

Devolder left the U.S. in 1999 and did not return until 2003, the Post reported, citing immigration documents obtained by accountant and genealogical researcher Alex Calzareth through a FOIA request.

Calzareth is from Nassau County, but not Santos’ district, according to NBC News.

Santos represents New York’s 3rd District, which stretches from eastern Queens onto Long Island.

He was seated in Congress despite lying about numerous items on his resume, from his college career to his family history to his religion.

Santos, 34, has recently fought allegations that he put on a fake Jewish-sounding name when calling Jewish people for donations to a fake charity and that he stole $3,000 from a homeless military veteran.

Santos has refused to resign despite calls from both sides of the aisle. He supported the bid of Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., to become House speaker. McCarthy assigned Santos to the House committees on science and small business.

“We are working through the registration, necessary training of our pharmacists, as well as evaluating our pharmacy network in terms of where we normally dispense products that have extra FDA requirements and will dispense these consistent with federal and state laws,” a Walgreens spokesman told medical publication STAT News on Wednesday.

The FDA altered its requirements for selling mifepristone on Tuesday, allowing retail pharmacies such as Walgreens to offer the medication for the first time.

All pharmacies must first complete an FDA certification process before they can fill prescriptions for the drug, which is also known by the brand name Mifeprex.

Before the rule change, mifepristone was only available through certain mail-order pharmacies and clinics. And prior to the pandemic, people were required to pick up the medication in person.

Mifepristone has been available since 2000 and used by an estimated 3.7 million people. More than half of abortions in the U.S. are now medically induced.

Other major pharmacies, such as CVS and Rite Aid, have not yet publicly committed to offering mifepristone.

“If Walgreens leads the way, others will likely follow,” University of Pittsburgh health law professor Greer Donley told STAT News. “Clearly, they think the benefits outweigh the burdens.”

Americans are banned along with the rest of the world.

The law, which went into effect Sunday, only carves out special rules for long-term international students, people claiming refugee status and visitors on temporary work permits. Otherwise, home-buying is limited to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the law’s supporters said it would help slow runaway home prices in the Canadian housing market. Toronto and Vancouver are often included on lists of the 10 least affordable cities in the world.

“The desirability of Canadian homes is attracting profiteers, wealthy corporations and foreign investors,” Trudeau’s Liberal Party says in its campaign platform. “This is leading to a real problem of underused and vacant housing, rampant speculation and skyrocketing prices.”

But critics pointed out that the vast majority of properties in those and other major Canadian cities are already owned by Canadians. Non-Canadians make up only 6% of homeowners in British Columbia, which includes Vancouver, and Ontario, which includes Toronto, according to government data.

“The prohibition on the purchase of residential property by non-Canadians can impact our reputation as a welcoming nation,” the Canadian Real Estate Association said in a statement. “The potential benefits of the ban are likely to be modest.”

Tate and his brother, Tristan, were arrested at their compound in the eastern European nation, Romanian newspaper Libertatea reported.

Romania’s organized crime and anti-terrorism agency confirmed two British citizens were arrested and charged with sex trafficking and rape, but did not name the suspects. Both Tates are British, and several Romanian outlets reported they were detained.

The Tates conspired with Romanian citizens to trick women into coming to their villa in the country’s Ilfov County, which includes the capital of Bucharest, according to police.

Once the women arrived at the compound, they were physically and mentally intimidated, then forced to stay and film porn videos, police said.

At least one victim was raped twice, investigators said. Six victims were rescued from the compound.

Cops first levied the allegations against Tate back in April 2022, but he brushed them off as a prank. This time, Romanian media captured video of the Tates being led out of their compound. Police said they would be detained for at least 24 hours.

Andrew Tate, 36, started his adult life as a kickboxer but retired and pivoted to hyper-misogynist internet content. In an interview, Tate said he was “absolutely a sexist” and “absolutely a misogynist.”

On Tuesday, he tweeted at climate activist Greta Thunberg bragging about his many cars and their harmful effects on the environment.

Thunberg shot back Wednesday, “yes, please do enlighten me. email me at smalldickenergy@getalife.com.” Her tweet received more than 3 million likes.

Wahl collapsed in the media area and died while covering a quarterfinal match between Argentina and the Netherlands, according to witnesses. His cause of death was not immediately reported.

“The entire U.S. Soccer family is heartbroken to learn that we have lost Grant Wahl,” the U.S. soccer federation said in a statement. “We thank Grant for his tremendous dedication to and impact on our game in the United States. His writing and the stories he told will live on.”

Two days into the tournament, on Nov. 21, Wahl was accosted by Qatari authorities for wearing a rainbow shirt to show support for the LGBT community. Same-sex relationships are illegal in Qatar.

“I am so thankful for the support of my husband Grant Wahl’s soccer family & of so many friends who’ve reached out tonight,” his wife, Céline Gounder, wrote Friday night. “I’m in complete shock.”

On Monday, Wahl wrote about visiting a clinic for a mysterious illness.

Verification to cost $8 per month

Musk was initially planning to charge $20 per month for Twitter’s famous blue checkmark, according to reports. However, he publicly changed his mind Monday in a back-and-forth with Stephen King.

“We need to pay the bills somehow! Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers. How about $8?” the SpaceX and Tesla founder asked the horror writer. “I will explain the rationale in longer form before this is implemented. It is the only way to defeat the bots & trolls.”

On Tuesday, Musk made it official: The company’s subscription service Twitter Blue will be required for a verification checkmark, and it will cost $8 per month.

“Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bulls—t,” Musk tweeted. “There will be a secondary tag below the name for someone who is a public figure, which is already the case for politicians.”

About 25% of Twitter employees will be laid off, according to a report

Twitter employed about 7,000 people when Musk took over. He’s planning to cut 25% of those jobs, The Washington Post reported Monday.

The paper described the impending layoffs as the “first round” of cutbacks. Earlier this year, The Post reported that Musk told investors he would cut 75% of Twitter’s workforce.

Musk himself has not confirmed any job cuts.

Content moderators were reportedly frozen out

Twitter employees in charge of taking down hate speech and other violations of Twitter rules were frozen out of their network tools on Monday, according to Bloomberg.

The moderators were unable to take action after receiving notifications about harmful content, the outlet reported. Content moderation was one of Musk’s main talking points ahead of his purchase, as he described himself as a free-speech absolutist — suggesting he didn’t want any content to be removed.

However, Musk disputed the Bloomberg report. He pointed to a tweet from the company’s head of safety and integrity, Yoel Roth.

“This is exactly what we (or any company) should be doing in the midst of a corporate transition to reduce opportunities for insider risk,” Roth wrote. “We’re still enforcing our rules at scale.”

Vine might make a comeback

Shortly after taking over, Musk created a simple yes/no Twitter poll with the question: “Bring back Vine?”

Twitter still has the rights to the video sharing app that looped 6-second clips. The company essentially shut Vine down in 2016. But now, Musk may want to bring it back. In his poll, nearly 70% of people voted yes.

Soon afterward, sources told Axios that Musk had asked employees to start work on rebooting Vine.

Twitter Blue subscribers will no longer have access to ad-free articles

One of the perks of Twitter Blue, even before Musk bought Twitter, was the ability to read news articles without ads on platforms that partnered with Twitter.

Musk canceled that deal, according to The Verge.

However, on Tuesday he tweeted about a different plan. Under his new $8 per month Twitter Blue, subscribers will be able to bypass paywalls “for publishers willing to work with us.” He didn’t provide further details.
