Daffodils are trumpeted harbingers of spring and are as ubiquitous with Easter as chocolate eggs. Wednesday, they’ll be the main attraction at the Garden Club of Virginia’s annual Daffodil Day, at Virginia Wesleyan University.

The event is one of the nation’s largest daffodil shows. An estimated 2,000 daffodil stems will be featured, with 40 floral arrangements and a photography show. The horticulture show will be judged by American Daffodil Society members, and judges with the Garden Club of Virginia and Garden Club of America will handle artistic design and photography.

The show returns to Virginia Wesleyan for a second year after becoming a venue in 2023 because of a scheduling glitch. Organizers wanted to return after seeing how interested college students were in the conference.

“It was a unique and rewarding teaching opportunity,” stated a news release, “and the students were delighted, at the close of the show, to gather their very own daffodil bouquets, learning the name of each specimen as they selected their blooms.”
