The Norfolk Tides have had more wardrobe changes than a Taylor Swift concert during their current nine-game homestand at Harbor Park, and the latest uniform gives a shoutout to their home city.
The Tides on Tuesday night will wear jerseys with “ORF” spelled out across the front and sport caps feauring the Norfolk Mace.
The Mace is “a colonial-era symbol of authority bestowed by English royalty, (and) is a precious reminder of and witness to much of Norfolk’s nearly 400 year history,” according to the city’s web page. The original Norfolk Mace is on display at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk.
Tuesday’s game against the Durham Bulls begins at 6:35 p.m.
Along with their usual home and road unis, the Tides will wear as many as 14 jerseys this season, ranging from those promoting Marvel comic books and movies, the Navy SEALS and the Latin American Community.
On Friday, the Tides were dressed as the Norfolk Red Stockings, a historical nod to the city’s entry in the Negro Leagues in the late 19th century. And Saturday, players wore unis of the Oat Milkers of Malmö, Sweden — home of the Oatly oat milk company.
The next uniform change is July 20 when the Tides pay tribute to the Orange Crush summer beverage by taking the field as the Norfolk Squeezers.
