How to submit an op-ed to The Virginian-Pilot

The Virginian-Pilot accepts opinion essays and columns for consideration from people with extensive knowledge or experience about a subject.

We’re looking for columns and essays about issues directly affecting residents of Hampton Roads and the commonwealth of Virginia. We favor pieces that are topical, timely, well-researched and precisely written, which are authored by local or state residents and which articulate a specific point of view.

These should be about 650 words in length and include a brief (one- or two-sentence) bio of the author that explains why they are a trustworthy commentator on that issue.

Submissions should be sent to opinion@pilotonline.com. Please send them in the text of an email, not an attachment.

They must be exclusive to The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press, and should include the author’s contact information and city of residence.

The volume of submissions is such that we will only contact you if we intend to use your piece. If we plan to publish your submission, you will be notified within five days.

Thank you for your interest in The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press.
