UPDATED:

A person died early Saturday morning following a tractor crash and fire in Suffolk, according to Suffolk Fire & Rescue.

Crews were dispatched to the 4400 block of Holland Road shortly before 3 a.m., following a reported power line down and brush fire. Upon arrival, Engine 7 upgraded the response due to a large fire in the area.

As Engine 7’s crews started to attack the fire, they spotted a tractor — that had been hauling a shipping container — in flames. The tractor left the roadway and struck several trees. The tractor was on fire, but the shipping container — which had overturned — was not.

Crews determined the fire was under control at 3:30 a.m. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters located one person deceased in the cab of the tractor. The saddle tank had ruptured.

Firefighters are working to identify the contents of the shipping container, which were not involved in the fire and are not a hazard, Suffolk Fire & Rescue reports.

Authorities have not identified the person who died. Suffolk Police are investigating the cause of the crash, and the Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
