Ben Rice’s seventh-inning solo home run spoiled a Norfolk Tides comeback attempt in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s 7-6 victory Wednesday night at PNC Field in Pennsylvania.

Rice also had an RBI single that helped give the RailRiders (35-24), the New York Yankees’ top affiliate, a 6-1 lead after three innings. His home run was his first of the season, and it came after Norfolk (31-28) rallied to tie it at 6.

Norfolk’s Jackson Holliday went 2 for 4 with two RBIs to extend his career-high hitting streak to 11 games. Terrin Vavra finished with two hits, while Heston Kjerstad hit an RBI triple and run-scoring sacrifice fly and Errol Robinson and Daniel Johnson added RBI singles.

The teams continue their series Thursday with a 6:35 p.m. game. Norfolk right-hander Carlos Tavera is scheduled to make his Triple-A debut, while left-hander Josh Maciejewski (1-0, 2.70 ERA) is the RailRiders’ scheduled starter.
